The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), The Republic and Canton of Geneva, The Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, The International AIDS Society, The International Council of AIDS Service Organisations, The International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS

Approx. 11,000. To date, 5/98, 9,500 registered from 136 countries

Persons affected by HIV/AIDS participate fully in the decision-making process concerning the Conference programme format and content

Approx. 5,000 of which there are 500 oral presentations

6) Conference programme  

Opening ceremony-June 28 at 5:30 p.m.
Scientific aspects-June 29 to July 3
Plenary sessions from 9-10:30 a.m.
Nine concurrent scientific sessions from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and exhibition of 1,250 posters per day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Community aspects-June 27 to July 3
Community symposia from 5:30-8 p.m.
Training programmes all day
Community Rendez-Vous (June 26-27, July 2)
Networking and skills building meetings of 700 community workers and PWAs from around the world
Satellite programmes-June 27 to July 4
Over 50 different organisations (e.g. multinational pharmaceutical companies, specialised scientific associations, support organisations) will be organising meetings at the conference site, between 6:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Bridging the gap between North and South, prevention of maternal-foetal transmission, latest progress in HIV/AIDS therapies, public health policy, human rights, education and prevention
