The Community Aspects of the 12th World AIDS Conference have been designed to complement and support the Scientific Aspects of the Conference.

"Community" has been defined broadly for the purposes of this Gorna and Torracinta-PacheConference. It includes scientists, health professionals, educators, counselors, health promotion practitioners and persons living with HIV/AIDS. The primary focus of the Community Aspects of the 12th World AIDS Conference will be on those persons who represent community-based non-governmental organisations.

The Community Aspects have four primary objectives :

  • Bridging gaps : by linking scientists with practitioners, disciplines with other disciplines, regions of the globe with other regions

  • Solidarity : by establishing productive opportunities for exchange

  • Communication : by helping delegates develop the skills for enhancing ongoing ability to exchange information

  • Accountability : by adding consumer voices to the Conference to help ensure that research leads to pragmatic policy and practical action.

Delegates from the Community sector are encouraged to submit abstracts – both experiential and scientific – for the Scientific tracks.
